Fit is personal, and cuts differ between brands and garments. Use this checklist as a starting point—not a substitute for trying the shirt on or checking its size chart.
1. Check the shoulder seam
Look for the shoulder seam to sit close to the edge of your natural shoulder. If it falls far down your upper arm, the shirt may feel oversized; if it pulls inward, the cut may be too narrow for you.
2. Make sure the collar feels easy
With the top button closed, the collar should feel secure but not tight. You should be able to move your neck comfortably. If you usually wear a shirt open at the neck, check that it still lies neatly when unbuttoned.
3. Look for comfortable room through the body
Button the shirt and raise your arms, reach forward, and sit down. A little ease helps you move; visible strain across the buttons can be a sign to try another size or cut. Avoid relying on a single mirror pose.
4. Check sleeve and shirt length
For a long-sleeve shirt, the cuff should sit comfortably at the wrist when your arms are relaxed. Shirt length depends on how you plan to wear it: tucked, untucked, or layered. Make sure it stays comfortable when you move.
5. Use the size chart, then try it on
Sizes are not universal. Compare your measurements with the garment’s own chart, review the fit description, and try the shirt on if possible. If you are between sizes, consider how you prefer your shirts to feel and whether you plan to layer underneath.
